IN CONGRESS MAY 26 2016
Declaration of Independence from Tiger Mom
When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for a child to assume a position free from the wrath of their tiger mom. Free from the hierarchy which they have hitherto occupied. Free from the laws of nature which have entitled this child as insubordinate.
We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all children and parents are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Whenever any form of Parenthood becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of those who suffer from it to refuse allegiance to it, and to insist upon independence from this form of parenthood.
My history of childhood is a history of repeated mental injuries and usurpations on the part of my Tiger Mom towards myself, creating absolute household tyranny. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid classroom.
She has never permitted me a boyfriend because he would apparently distract me from my studies.
She has compelled me to submit to her rules, on a basis of “I told you so” or through an abuse of authority “Because I am your parent and you are my child”.
She has forced upon me a series of daily verbal torture https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B21kfYOWvuBmOHBqZTdzNUpmdlk
She has repeatedly hidden my laptop, withholding my right to the pursuit of happiness.
Even after depriving one of my rights as a human, she has even hammered my laptop to “teach me a lesson” (PICTURE AT THE BOTTOM)
She has withheld from me tennis tournaments, drills, and lessons on multiple occasions on the basis of “not studying enough”, and again, to “teach me a lesson” https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B21kfYOWvuBmOFF6bVZlOFdDRDQ
She has made me, if not studying for the ACT, inwardly tortured. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B21kfYOWvuBmSVFQUmxySlEwTm8
She has taken from me, the right to freely drive, even though I am fully licensed and insured.
Lastly, she has framed me little by little into mirror image of herself
In light of declaring independency, I realized how greatly my mother loves me. Everything she has done has been to protect her little tiger cub. I know she means well. But in response to “What I Want” https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B21kfYOWvuBmczBMVFM2Rzd3S0E
I want freedom. Freedom from her strict relationship rules, freedom from her daily lectures, freedom from her laptop breaking hammer, and freedom from her ACT rants. It is inevitable that a child will grow independent from her parents. Whether she realizes it or not, the time of independency has come. College is arriving in just a year and we will both need to learn how to become independent of each other. I will no longer let her words control me and from now on I will trod my own my path as a growing cub. So without further ado, I declare myself free, free from the wrath of the Tiger.
The Resolution is adopted. The meeting is adjourned
